Shrimp aquaculture production during 2022-23 and 2021-22 in India
India's total aquaculture production of shrimp comprising Vannamei, Black Tiger and other shrimp estimated based on the reports received from the field is 11,61,164MT during 2022-23, registering an increase of 14% over the production of 10, 17,012MT recorded during the previous year. The Increase was propelled mainly by the increase in production of Pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei).
The Vannamei production during the year was 10,97,481MT, which is more than 1,21,267MT of the previous year's production of 9,76,213MT, thus registering an Increase of 12%. L.vannamei production contributed to around 94.5% of the total shrimp aquaculture production in the country.
The total production of tiger shrimp registered an increase of 55.64% compared to the previous year. Scampi production recorded 7% increase over 2021-22 with a production figure of 22,862MT. Other shrimps recorded 118% increase in production compared to 2021-22.
Total production of Shrimp and Scampi (11,84,026MT) also registered an increase of about 14% compared to previous year. The below able will provide a glimpse of the extent of increase in production of shrimp species and scampi which resulted in an overall increase of 14% in total production.
